Bellevue Unvirsity Assistant Professor Mike Giron will lecture at the Joslyn Art Museum about Diego Rivera's mural work, which includes the above painting, "La conquista."

Bellevue University Assistant Professor of Art Michael Giron will speak tonight at Omaha’s Joslyn Art Museum, part of the museum’s ongoing speaker series about Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Giron’s talk, “Revealing Rivera: The Mexican Muralist Movement,” will examine the Mexican Muralist Movement, which began in the 1920s and was an integral part of the cultural renaissance that occurred in the wake of the Mexican Revolution. Rivera was part of a trio of artists – “Los Tres Grandes” – that also included Jose Clemente Orozco and David Siquerios.

Giron earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Colorado University at Boulder and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans. Since 2005, Giron has taught a Bellevue University course, Mexican and Contemporary Murals, which focuses on the Mexican Mural Movement.

Giron’s lecture begins at 6 p.m. in Joslyn’s Abbott Lecture Hall. Admission is $10 for museum members; $15 for non-members. The Rivera lecture series is in conjunction with a Joslyn exhibit of Rivera’s work.
