Lincoln Northeast High School on Friday won the 18th annual Bellevue University Invitational Quiz Bowl. The Rockets took the title by beating Bellevue West twice in the championship round of this double-elimination competition.
Members of the winning team are Max Wheeler, Ben Breckbill and Lynnie Krause. Each member of the first-place team receives a $1,500 scholarship to Bellevue University, as well as a traveling trophy. Members of the second-place team – Bellevue West – receive $1,000 Bellevue University scholarships.
Elkhorn High School took third place. Its team members receive $750 scholarships.
The quiz bowl featured teams from 24 area high schools. Each game lasts 20 minutes or long enough for 50 toss-up questions, whichever comes first. Quiz bowl competitors use buzzers, and once they “buzz in,” they have five seconds to answer the question. Questions cover math, science, history, literature and language.
